Smoking Cessation Hypnotherapy

'New Scientist magazine (vol 136 issue 1845) reported the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of stopping smoking. Of all of the different methods analyzed the survey found Hypnotherapy to be the most effective, being five times more effective than will power alone, and three times more effective than nicotine gum, "Most techniques turned out to be hopeless. Hypnosis, however, came out as the most effective anti-smoking technique ."'

Offering smoking cessation therapy to employees has been identified as both an effective way of ensuring compliance with the new law - and as a positive and popular employee benefit. By providing Work Stress Management's smoking cessation hypnotherapy sessions in your organisation, you can help and encourage employees to give up in advance of the smoking ban and also stimulate better productivity, health, wellbeing and reduced sickness absence.

Using Hypnotherapy to Support Stopping Smoking

Hypnotherapy is an effective and clinically proven method of breaking unwanted habits quickly, easily and comfortably.

Like all forms of support when giving up smoking, hypnotherapy will only work if the individual truly wants to give up smoking. The determination must come from the individual themselves for it to be truly successful. Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for willpower, but instead really strengthens the self-discipline needed to remove the habit. It removes the need and desire to smoke, the feeling of deprivation and the need for substitutes like 'binge' eating; instead towards feelings of pleasure and pride at becoming a non-smoker.

Most people stop smoking after one session with a few usually stopping after a backup session or telephone support. The session is personalised for the individual and lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. The first half will be discussing the individual's pattern of smoking, why it's important to stop and what positive focus they would like to replace it with such as eating and drinking more healthily, and exercising more regularly. A CD and guidelines will be provided to each participant in preparation for sessions. Each participant will also be asked to complete a confidential Stop Smoking Questionnaire to bring along to the session.
